How to find a start-up

Are you interested in finding a start-up to join?  If so, here are some ideas on how to find one.

I admit I'm biased, but the first option that comes to mind is to check out the OTBC "Founders Seeking Co-Founders" database, and the corresponding July 10 Founders Seeking Co-Founders event (the database is listed just below the event description).  Founders who participate are specifically looking for people to join their team.  You can read about their idea in the datebase.  Just click on the contact name to get in touch with the founder.  Better yet, come hear their 1 minute pitch at the July 10  event.  These are mostly very early-stage opportunities - i.e., founders looking for others who are willing to help get a start-up off the ground in return for owning a piece of the company.

If you're looking for start-ups that might actually pay a salary (or a consulting fee), check out the Silicon Florist Job and Gig board.  Lots of the opportunities listed are with start-ups. And you'll want to keep coming back for more, because Rick keeps adding to the list.

And of course, yet another way to find a start-up is good old fashion networking - and a good place to network when your looking for a start-up is an OEN Pub Talk.  Coming up on August 11, the Pub Talk topic is: "So you Think you can Pitch?".  It's another opportunity to see some start-up founders pitch their idea, although they may have fundraising in mind more than adding to the team - but you never know!

So there are some start-up-finding ideas for the coming month.  If you know of other upcoming events or places for finding a start-up to join, please post a comment!
